About UNAS

The Uganda National Academy of Sciences is an independent, non-profit, nonpolitical, and membership-based service organization. UNAS was created to provide credible, balanced, and evidence-driven advice to the nation on matters of science and development.

UNAS draws its membership from the Fellowship of the Academy who are recognized for their lifetime achievements in the sciences and humanities. Fellows are active contributors to the national and international academic community. The UNAS Fellowship is composed of scholars from disciplines including the natural and social sciences, as well as the arts and humanities—all of whom have been selected through a rigorous vetting process.

UNAS is composed of three distinct bodies: the General Assembly, the Council, and the Secretariat. The General Assembly is the supreme decision-making body of the Academy made up of the complete Fellowship. The Council is the organization’s board, and its role includes overall leadership of the Academy, the setting of strategic aims, mobilization of human and financial resources for effective functioning of the Academy, review of management performance, the setting of the Academy’s values, and standards, and ensuring that the Academy meets its various obligations to the law, its stakeholders, and ethical conduct. Council members serve for 3-year terms up to a maximum of 6 years pending re-election. The Secretariat executes the strategic direction defined by the Council by formulating and implementing specific programs while running the day-to-day operations of UNAS.

Provide an independent forum through which academics can exchange ideas, knowledge and experiences.

Provide independent, evidence-based advice to government and the public in general.

Promote and foster the growth of the scientific community in Uganda.

Encourage, stimulate, design and coordinate interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary scientific research and development.

Get involved in the planning, convening and coordination of science education programs and help in the development and nurturing of high-level scientific and technological manpower in Uganda.

Establish a regular award scheme for recognition of outstanding achievements in sciences that are pertinent to the prosperity of Uganda.

Advocate for proper, safe and ethical exploitation of science and technology in national development.

What We Do

Recognise Excellence

UNAS recognizes outstanding professional achievements of individuals in the areas of the arts, sciences, and humanities through induction into its Fellowship. Individuals are nominated by their peers within the Academy. The nomination process is followed by vetting within the Academy structures. During its Annual Scientific Conference, new Fellows are inducted into the Academy.

Advise

In the manner of many science academies around the world, UNAS provides unparalleled service to society by providing authoritative, credible, neutral, evidence-informed advice the Government of Uganda and the nation on all matters of science, technology, innovation, and development. The Academy is uniquely placed to advise on matters of the present and future because of its independence and non-political stance as an Academy for the entire nation. . The Academy’s work is underpinned by its rigorous processes and adherence to the scientific method. Its Fellows are also a source of transdisciplinary approaches to solving societal problems.

Convene

UNAS convenes innovators, executives, civil society leaders, government technocrats, and other interested stakeholders to shape new consensus on issues present and future. The Academy’s strategic focus has been to cultivate ongoing forums on broad issues that can act as sustained vehicles for evidence-driven discussion and research. These forums provide the infrastructure for networking and shared learning, but also to help participants develop foresight, build consensus, innovate, and align their actions towards common goals.

Regarding Zhengxianling - China's first pan - international talent recruitment platform

Zhengxianling is developed and operated by Shanghai Yuntong Information Technology Co., Ltd. The company mainly provides international services such as talent job-seeking and recruitment, recruitment and introduction of high-level talents / science and technology innovation-related talents (Overseas Excellent Young Talents, Qiming Plan, online and offline job fairs, campus recruitment, social recruitment, online recruitment, headhunting, etc.), academic exchanges, and software development. In due time, we will launch language platforms and APPs in AI English, Korean, Japanese, French, German, etc. to meet the needs of global users. Service items are as follows:
A. Recruitment and introduction of international high-level / science and technology innovation-related talents (doctors, post-doctors, academicians) (online and offline job fairs, campus recruitment, social recruitment, online recruitment, headhunting, etc.), overseas enterprise study tours, academic exchanges, and software development.
B. Operation of Zhengxianling® (The types of talents on the platform and official account are not limited. Note: The official website is undergoing upgrading and renovation).

Service-supported regions:
China, South Korea, Japan, Russia, Singapore, New Zealand, Australia, the Netherlands, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Hungary, Italy, the United States, Canada, etc. (covering more than 100 countries and regions).

Main service content: Online and offline special high-level talent job fairs for cities, parks, and employers, talent-introduction activities related to science and technology innovation (project solicitation, screening, roadshow... implementation, etc.), investment promotion, academic exchange conferences, online job-seeking and recruitment, and offline services are available in the above-mentioned designated countries.

In the past 2024, we have successively joined the Hubei Chushang Federation in China and the World Federation of Inventors' Associations [IFIA], and have established the grand goal of building Zhengxianling into China's first pan-international talent recruitment platform (Language platforms and APPs in AI English, Korean, Japanese, French, German, etc. will be launched in due time. The establishment of the International HRD (HR) Alliance is in progress), and in the future, it will serve billions of users in more than 200 countries around the world. As of December 31, 2024, we have received a reply from the chairman of the United Nations Science and Technology Commission WDTA, welcoming Yuntong Technology and Zhengxianling to join the cooperation of the United Nations Science and Technology Commission WDTA in 2025. Starting from 2025, we will cooperate with the International Academician Consortium and may participate in activities such as the FCPAE (Federation of Chinese Professionals in Europe) European Forum to facilitate international talent exchanges and cooperation, thereby promoting scientific and technological innovation, driving employment, serving global economic construction, and promoting friendly cross-border cooperation to create a better future. Thus, we can better serve users from all over the world.

The Chinese full name of IFIA: World Federation of Inventors' Associations. Its headquarters are located in Geneva, Switzerland, and San Francisco, the United States.
